Tips to Increase Your Productivity

If you are like most people, you start a project or business with good intentions. You are focused on creating something great. You have your plan created, and you are ready to go. However, you may find that you have more work to do than time to do it. Therefore, these are ways you can increase your productivity.

Move Around Regularly

During the day, you can begin to lose focus, get distracted, and lose motivation. Sitting all day can have a definite impact on your mental focus and your physical health. Recent studies stress the importance of moving around throughout the day. You should get out of your chair for at least five minutes every hour. Many studies suggest that you move around every 30 minutes. These breaks help your brain relax and rejuvenate. Watch for signs of mental fatigue, including checking your phone or email, surfing the web, or finding it difficult to focus on your task.

Use Your Time Well

Many people feel as if they don’t have a minute to spare throughout the day, but most can find a few minutes to relax or learn something new. For example, consider listening to a podcast or audiobook while you run errands, during your commute to and from work, or any other time you are in your vehicle. Choose riveting, motivating, or engaging content. Find something you want to learn more about.

You can also record ideas or thoughts during these periods. For example, you may think about a new product or service idea while you are driving to the grocery store. You can also compose emails or letters via a voice recorder that can be transcribed later in the day.

Set Goals with Deadlines

You need to have a clear direction with a solid deadline. Start with your overall long-term vision. Then, create long- and short-term goals based on this vision. Break your goals down into manageable tasks. Set up a whiteboard or project management process that allows you to easily track your accomplishments. Then, set rewards for any accomplishments.

Seek Accountability

As a business owner, you are not typically accountable to anyone. You have responsibilities, such as ensuring that your staff is paid, but no one is asking you where you are on specific projects. Lack of accountability can be a drain on your productivity, however.

Therefore, you should seek ways to become accountable. Speak with upper management or professionals in your network and ask them to hold you accountable for your work.

You can have greater control of your productivity and motivation. Consider implementing some of these tips to get you started.
